Which service do I need?
What is the difference between an interim and a full service?
An interim service is a six-monthly or 6,000-mile check covering oil, filter, fluids, lights, tyres and brakes. A full service is the yearly or 12,000-mile service and adds air and fuel filters where due, a deeper brake and suspension inspection and a road test.
Car servicingWhat is an MOT?
An MOT is the annual test required by law for most cars over three years old in Great Britain. It checks that the car meets minimum road-safety and environmental standards on the day of the test – lights, brakes, steering, tyres, seatbelts, emissions and more. It is not a service.
MOTWhat is the legal minimum tyre tread in the UK?
The legal minimum for cars is 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, around the whole tyre. Each illegal tyre can bring a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points. Most experts recommend replacing tyres well before that, at around 3 mm.
TyresWhat does a garage diagnostic check involve?
A diagnostic check reads the fault codes stored by your car's computer, then a technician tests the components those codes point to. The code alone rarely tells the whole story – the testing afterwards is what separates a sensor fault from a wiring problem or a failing part.
