What is the legal minimum tyre tread in the UK?

How do I know if my tyres need replacing?
Check the tread wear indicators – small raised bars in the grooves. If the tread is level with them, you are at the 1.6 mm legal limit. Also look for cracks, bulges or cuts on the sidewall. If you are unsure, pop in and we will measure the tread and tell you honestly.
Can you repair a puncture instead of replacing the tyre?
Often, yes. A puncture in the central part of the tread, from a nail or screw, can usually be repaired safely. Damage to the sidewall or shoulder, or a tyre that has been driven flat, cannot. We inspect it inside and out and tell you which applies before doing anything.
